This image reveal gets us half-way there! Today I’m presenting to you the gorgeous Holly Black:
How pretty is Holly Black? I won’t lie, she’s probably the gal I was most excited to shoot for her basic look. I think she’s stunning, and I was thrilled to be able to get my turn photographing her. Holly knew her hair would be blue to go with the release of her newest book Coldest Girl in Coldtown (read it, it’s awesome), so I was able to structure the entire photo around that, utilizing the color to shape the feel of the image. I decided to go with an air goddess. I loved the idea of yards of fabric billowing away from her, blowing and waving almost of their own accord. Holly also got really excited when I talked about some of the images having live birds, and it seemed only right that I locate one for the air goddess. So the hunt began!
I was put in contact with a NY falconer named Tom who cheap payday loan had an African Hawk Eagle we could use. We had to drive a bit for the shoot (Holly lives in western MA and we had to shoot in in NY for permit reasons), but I found a state park that had a few perfect locations. The initial location was a rock overlooking a valley, and though the photos were cool, as the sun was setting we decided to hop down to the nearby waterfall for some last minute pics before we lost all the light. These photos were so much more dynamic that I knew instantly that these were the pics I wanted to use.
This costume was a lot of fun to figure out, because I wanted a pretty dress that looked interesting and awesome and could stand up next to yards and yards of fabric. I had a lot of fun playing with the blue tones, and I think the overall look achieves the desired effect.
